п»їThe boy who could do it is a story that should be told to every child in the world. The reason is that it conveys a powerful message: it is essential to strive to achieve one's goals and objectives, leaving aside the voices that threaten illusion.
This adaptation of a popular tale by Eloy Moreno should be told to all the children in the world. Because El niГ±o que pudo hacerlo, is a tale that empowers, that reflects the reality of life in the constitution and nurturing of our dreams.
The story moves away from the overly optimistic message of "If you want to, you can". Because to want is not always to be able to and that should be clear to us from childhood so as not to fall into the prison of the demand of the impossible.
The ability to realistically analyze our possibilities is what builds our self-esteem in a healthy way, that is why it is necessary that we anticipate the I can to the I want and we move only by the dreamlike and magical impulse of the desire to excel.
We do not want children who have to be perfect... because we do not want to cultivate pride; we want children who love themselves and trust in themselves and in their potential; who know, in short, that no one can beat them at being themselves.
The story: The boy who could do itTwo children had been skating all morning on a frozen lake when, suddenly, the ice breaks and one of them falls into the water. The internal current displaces him a few meters below the frozen part, so, in order to save him, the only option was to break the layer that covered him.
His friend began to shout for help, but when he saw that no one was coming, he quickly looked for a stone and began to hit the ice with all his strength.
He hit, hit and hit, until he managed to open a crack through which he put his arm to grab his companion and save him. A few minutes later, alerted by neighbors who had heard the cries for help, the firemen arrived. When they told them what had happened, they couldn't stop wondering how such a small boy had been able to break through such a thick layer of ice.
-It's impossible that he could have done it with those hands, it's impossible, he's not strong enough, how could he have managed it? -they commented among themselves.
An old man who was nearby, hearing the conversation, approached the firemen.
-I know how he did it," he said.
-How? -They replied in surprise.
-There was no one around to tell him he couldn't do it.
Children, dreams and our role in building their self-esteemWe develop and give free rein to our capacity for self-improvement based on two main pillars. That is to say, when we are small, what others tell us is not only a deterrent or a stimulus, but also shapes our identity and the image we have of ourselves.
As adults we have a main and essential role in building the self-esteem of the little ones. For their part, they are like sponges and easily absorb what they observe and the messages we transmit to them. All children are made of delicate, innocent, brittle, dreamlike, magnificent material. They are bubbling minds that transform their games into dreams to be created and aspirations to be fulfilled.
When we contemplate children, we must be aware that we are their trainers, responsible for their dreams, their will to live, their self-esteem and, in short, for their construction.
As we know, stories are one of the ways of communication with children par excellence. Through them we help them to understand themselves, to manage in the world, to assume values and to create new experiences. This story conveys a message that translates into the importance of developing an essential skill to keep us on our feet in life: resilience.
Resilience understood as strength, persistence in the face of adversity and management of internal dialogue. It is essential that we stop to meditate on how important it can be to tell a story like this to a child to solidly establish the foundations of his or her castle.
Messages like the one in this story will help them to weave their wings in a special and thoughtful way and will support them in experimenting with their abilities and interests but, above all, will help them to develop unique self-management strategies in the right way.
